Too many quilts are tucked away in closets or chests because they have been damaged or are otherwise unusable. Perhaps a treasured quilt was damaged, and you set it aside to prevent more damage from occurring. Or maybe you discovered an old family quilt that needs some repair before it can be used. Treetop Quilting can help bring those quilts out into the open where they can be used, viewed, and appreciated by all. For examples of quilt repairs that Treetop Quilting has done, see the Quilt Repair Gallery.
Treetop Quilting can repair quilts with several types of damage, including
Other types of damage can be can also be repaired. To discuss the specific type of damage to your quilt, contact Treetop Quilting.
The first question to ask when dealing with a damaged quilt is "What will you do with your quilt after it is repaired?" If an heirloom quilt will be hung on the wall or placed carefully into a container to be passed on to the grandchildren, it can be preserved. Netting is appliqued over the damaged area to protect against further damage, while still keeping the original fabrics visible. However, if the quilt will be draped across a bed or sofa back and used, the quilt needs to be repaired in a different manner. For example, matching fabric may be appliqued over the damage, instead of netting. Fabric is sturdier and softer than netting, making it more appropriate for a quilt that will be used. It's up to you if you want your quilt preserved or repaired. Either way, all the work is done by hand. The damaged pieces of the quilt are not removed, and the original design of the quilt is retained. When possible, damaged fabrics are covered with fabric from the same era.
Pricing is quoted on an individual basis. It is based on the type and extent of the damage and the repair or preservation desired. For example, covering one or two small tears in a single fabric would be $30 - $40. However, dealing with a larger tear across multiple fabrics would be more. Replacement fabric and thread are included. Please contact Treetop Quilting with the condition of your quilt for more specific pricing. In cases of extensive or unusual damage, Treetop Quilting might have to physically see your quilt to evaluate it. See Treetop Quilting's policies for more information. |
